Light maintenance that keeps trees healthy and safe.
Light tree work is maintenance. Low-hanging branches that are in the way. Dead wood that's starting to look shabby. Branches overhanging the fence or path. Limbs brushing the roof. It's the kind of thing most homeowners would reach for a handsaw to handle themselves, except it's overhead and a bit awkward. We handle it properly, safely, and without drama.
This is not arborist work. We're not felling trees, removing large sections, doing major structural work or working at height on tall trees. We don't go near powerlines. For any of that, you need a qualified arborist with the right certifications and insurance. What we do is look at a tree that's a bit overgrown, identify what needs tidying, and sort it. Low branches come off. Dead wood comes out. Canopy gets thinned where it's too dense. Overhanging limbs that are in the way get trimmed back. The tree looks better, air and light get through, and you don't have branches scratching your roof or dropping over the fence.
We use battery-powered pole saws and chainsaws — Makita, charged at home by solar. That's quieter than petrol equipment, no fumes drifting through windows, and safer because you've got better control. It also matters when you're working overhead near a house — battery-powered is significantly less jarring and scary for the people living there. All the work is done from the ground or low ladders, nothing risky or dramatic.
Canberra's trees have their own rhythm. Eucalypts drop branches year-round and always seem to have a limb doing something odd. Deciduous trees — maples, plane trees, ash — benefit from tidying in winter when they're bare. Fig trees need thinning occasionally to prevent them getting too dense. Whatever the tree, we assess what needs doing, do it properly, and remove all the debris.
Every tree work visit includes assessment and full cleanup.

Common questions about light tree work in Canberra.
What's the difference between light tree work and arborist work?
Light tree work is about tidying — removing low branches, thinning canopy, clearing overhanging limbs and deadwood from small to medium trees. It's maintenance. Arborist work involves major structural work — large branch removal, tree felling, work at height on tall trees, work near powerlines. For anything beyond light trimming and branch removal, we refer to a qualified arborist.
Do I need council approval to trim trees in Canberra?
It depends on the tree and the suburb. Some trees in Canberra are protected or subject to restrictions. It's worth checking with your local council before you plan major work. If you're unsure, Kai can advise during a site visit.
Can you remove branches overhanging my fence?
Yes, if the tree is on your property. We can remove low-hanging or overhanging branches from your trees. If the tree belongs to a neighbour, you'd need their permission first — though neighbourly conversations about overhanging branches usually work out fine.
Do you work near powerlines?
No. We never work within striking distance of powerlines — it's dangerous and requires a qualified arborist and powerline safety certification. If a tree has branches near or touching powerlines, we'll refer you to a qualified arborist for that work.
